Code P2096 on Chevrolet Orlando 1.8

Model: Chevrolet Orlando Fault Code: P2096 Posted: 2020-05-23 06:40

Greetings all, I have a P2096 code which i cleared and it popped back. Diagnostics show LTFT to be negative 7, STFT is also majority of the scan in the negative zone between - 0.8 to - 9.0 at times. O2S1B1 jumps between 0 and max 700 range, O2s2 post cat runs in the 700 range. No power problems, car pulls good. I ordered a new post cat sensor and will see if there is a change. Cleaned IAT sensor, cleaned MAP sensor, pulled out the injectors but none of them are leaking and all four sprays the same. Only thing i have not checked is the fuel preasure. Dont hear any vacuum leaks and when blocking the exhaust I dont hear any leaks either. Any sugestions...

What are your fuel trims at various loads idle.... 1500 rpm.... 3000 rpm? Cold exhaust hook shop vac reversed hoses to out pressure in exhaust duct tape end exhaust engine off spray soapy water especially around post cat connection make sure no exhaust leaks. Can you graph post cat 02 sensor look at and do some snap throttle with cat and engine hot normal operating temperature. Should increase then go to around 6-700 mv. At 2000 rpm precat 02 should be switching between 200-800 mv. Seen them do 100-900 mv. Vacuum leak? Take water bottle buy store poke hole top squirt engine compartment listen hissing and rpm change around gaskets. Check air box and rubber hoses ect. Just some thoughts. If lean precat I would think you would have lean code p0171. Look at 02 precat various loads and post cat snap throttle and check for exhaust leaks. Check stft and ltft various loads.

Hi again, Thanks for the advice. I do have a graph but unfortunatly the photo is not uploading. When i accelerated from 1600 revs to just above 2000 the following occurred: Discover more Truck Fuel Jeep STFT from +3.9 to +8.5 then gradually between positive and neg Pre cat O2s1 dropped to 0,105mv and back up to 0,845mv occilating in that range. Post cat O2s2 made a down spike from 760mv to 105mv and gradually back up to 760 range as the revs increased and stayed there while i set speed control to 1500rpm Hope this helps. I did record a 2500 rpm but i have to plot the graph still. It takez some time as i am using excel spreadsheet to do this

Plus or minus 10% is acceptable. Do several snap throttle together watch post cat 02 waveform should go above 600 700 mv. At 3000 rpm trims under 10 that is acceptable. Like to see around 5 but no big problem. Pcm is making adjustments. Your precat 02 switching frequency normally at 2000 rpm. I think if there was a fuel delivery problem you would see it in the precat 02 waveform. Take car on highway long stretch and graph both 02 and put pedal to the floor precat 02 is not used at wide open throttle but it should go full rich. See if it does under full throttle also look and see what rear 02 sensor is doing during this time. A vacuum leak would affect precat 02 sensor I would think. I do a bunch of snap throttles together and see if drive rear 02 rich or I introduce carb cleaner or propane into intake to see if can drive rear 02 rich. You stated only drive ability problem you are having is a stumble? Off idle? Some vehicles now on newer cars are using post cat 02 for fuel trim not just catalyst efficiency. What year. Maybe bad 02 or exhaust leak.

Hi again Autojoe I ran a test driving at 2500RPM and then open ecellerator up to 3200RPM and snap closed it. On the graph both O2 went up to 880 s1 and 865 s2 and when the peddal closed both dropped to O2 s1 zero and O2s2 0.035Mv they both followed each other and about 20 frames later s1 popped back up to 895Mv and s2 stayed down and later went back up. Test run graph 20200524_152824.jpg (315.01 KiB) Viewed 3156 times I manged to upload a graph

Sorry, the red line is RPM Yellow is STFT Purple is O2S1 pre cat Light blue is O2S2 post cat Green is LTFT

It looks like they should. If fuel delivery problem precat 02 would not be rich whole time pedal to the floor. I would suspect either a exhaust leak or post cat 02 sensor. I wish I could be more help. What drive ability problems are you having?

Can't really tell voltage levels.

Anonymous 2020-05-24 10:58

Graph pre and post cat 02 sensors. Turn key on engine off. Should show 450mv bias voltage. Start vehicle let warm up post cat 02 should be around 700 mv. Fully warmed up do snap throttle post cat should increase to around 800 or higher then return to flatline around 700 775 mv. Should notice the post cat 02 should go up same time precat 02 sensor does on waveform.

Thanks AutoJoe Everthing so far was most helpful. I actually dont have any power problems. It only feels less powerful when the DTC comes on but when resetted/cleared the power is more real again. I will replace the post O2 sensor and give feedback after. Will double check for exhaust leaks also Thanks again Chat soon

I am looking at enabling criteria for that code. Do not replace the rear 02 sensor. Vehicle not listed in my info system. Where are you located.

This code will set under cruise conditions second trip when long term fuel trim reaches its limit while 02 is trying to correct. Monitor long term fuel trim under cruise conditions. Can set from restricted intake. Vacuum leaks. Exhaust leaks. Rich conditions like high fuel pressure. Leaking injectors stuck open purge valve. I had to dig info from my gm account. There is a gm tsb. Check vacuum leaks and exhaust leaks besides everything else that can cause a rich condition. You can check exhaust leaks like I posted earlier or smoke machine. Check vacuum leak with smoke or propane running along airbox and gaskets or take a plastic water bottle drill hole in cap and squirt along suspect areas gaskets and listen for rpm changes hissing sounds. I have never ran into this code. Lots lean and rich codes. If you email me your email address I can send you gm service information.

Thanks Autoajoe I am from South Africa (Richards Bay) My Email is deodatsmit@gmail.com Will appreciate those GM stuff you want to send. This weekend I will rather do a decent check for leaks before changing the O2. I want to see what the fuel preassure is also, might be spraying under or over preassure causing rich mixture or lean if under.

It's not going to be the 02 sensor. I will send it to email.
