1998 Chevrolet Camaro 3.8L: P0404, P0505, P1406, P0304, P0122, P0125 Fault Codes - Should I Replace the Engine?

Model: camaro Fault Code: P0122 Posted: 2014-06-09 19:07

I recently ran diagnostics on my 1998 Chevrolet Camaro 3.8L with 200,000 miles and found several fault codes: P0404 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Flow Malfunction), P0505 (Idle Control Valve Performance Issue), P1404 (EGR Valve Stuck Open), P0304 (Cylinder 4 Misfire), P0122 (Throttle Position Sensor Circuit Low), and P0125 (Engine Coolant Temperature Too Low). I'm trying to understand what these codes mean and whether replacing the engine is necessary. Are there known technical service bulletins or common fixes for these issues on this model?

You missed important details like the vehicle year, engine size, and mileage. Please clarify those. Also, always clear the codes and re-scan to see which ones return. Replacing the engine is rarely needed—these issues are typically fixable with diagnostics and component replacements.

This is a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro with a 3.8L V6 engine and has accumulated 200,000 miles on the odometer.

There are no known Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) specifically addressing these codes on this vehicle. The presence of three EGR-related codes (P0404, P0505, P1404), one TPS code (P0122), one cylinder 4 misfire (P0304), and a possible stuck open thermostat (P0125) suggests multiple system issues. Before recommending any major repairs, I strongly advise clearing the codes and re-scanning to confirm which faults persist. Also, please check for any drivability problems such as rough idling, stalling, or loss of power.
