2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer P1400 Code: Cold Start Emission Control System Fault
I'm experiencing a Powertrain Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1400 on my 2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer with a 4.2L 6-cylinder engine. The vehicle shows no dashboard warnings, and there are no other active error codes. I have not made any modifications to the engine or intake/exhaust systems. DTC P1400 — Cold Start Emission Reduction Control System — indicates that the vehicle's exhaust energy model during a cold start does not match the expected values. This diagnostic monitors key parameters including engine speed, spark timing, throttle position, airflow per cylinder, coolant temperature, engine runtime, park/neutral status, and vehicle speed. The code triggers under specific conditions: a detected cold start, vehicle speed below 2 km/h, idle state with no pedal input, airflow exceeding 80 mg/cylinder, and absence of other related DTCs (such as P0101–P0651, P1101, etc.). It runs for up to 15 seconds within the first 70 seconds after startup. When set, the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminates and records failure conditions in freeze frame data. The code clears after three consecutive successful diagnostics or after 40 warm-up cycles without failures — though a scan tool can clear it manually. Potential causes include vacuum leaks, restricted air intake, dirty air filters, or exhaust system issues. I've confirmed the engine is not being loaded during startup (e.g., no clutch engagement), and all modifications have been ruled out.
To better assist with diagnosing P1400, please provide: 1) Engine type (e.g., 4.2L V6) 2) Any other active DTCs 3) Modifications to the engine or intake/exhaust system Once you confirm these details, we can proceed with a targeted analysis.
