I'm experiencing a P1475 diagnostic trouble code on my 1999 Jetta 2.0L Wolfsburg Edition. This code is related to the Liquid Drain Pump (LDP) system. The issue started after I had a mechanic bypass the charcoal canister, who claimed the check engine light would not come back on. However, the warning light has now reappeared. I'm wondering whether this P1475 code is caused by the canister bypass, a faulty LDP, or both. Does anyone have experience with this specific fault in the 1999 Jetta? Any insights into how to resolve it would be greatly appreciated.

Bypassing any component of the emissions system will almost certainly trigger a diagnostic code. A mechanic who claims that disabling a system won't cause a check engine light is fundamentally misunderstanding how vehicle emission controls work. The ECU monitors system integrity — removing or bypassing parts should always result in a fault being logged.

Should I simply reverse the canister bypass and restore the original setup, allowing the system to reset? Or would it be better to replace both the charcoal canister and the LDP while I have the fender well open?

My recommendation is to restore all emission system components to their factory design before attempting further troubleshooting.
