P0420 Fault in 1999 Honda Civic LX After Distributor Replacement

I recently owned a 1999 Honda Civic LX, and about two weeks ago, my distributor failed. After the mechanic replaced it and I drove approximately 20 miles, the Check Engine Light (CEL) activated. I took the car to AutoZone to scan for codes, and the result was P0420 — Catalytic Converter Operating Below Threshold. This code did not appear before the distributor replacement. Could an improper installation of the distributor be causing this P0420 error? I'm concerned about whether the repair itself triggered a catalytic converter issue.
