99 gmc suburban code p1404

Model: 99 GMC Suburban Fault Code: P1404 Posted: 2009-03-27 21:43

i had this code p1404 egr pintle valve stuck open, i replaced egr valve, check engine light came back on with same code p1404, while doing the smog, during idle test, idle kept on going off by itslef, around 200rps+-, will the egr cause this idle malfunction, or am i missing something please advise

Either you got a defective EGR or the zero position for the new EGR pintle must be relearned before it will work. Try this: Disconnect the EGR plug. Reset the CEL and immediately turn the key off before it lights up again. Connect the EGR plug. Turn on the key. Good luck and keep us posted.

ok, i tried this a couple of times, and cel keeps on coming back, any other suggestions, i exchanged the new EGR valve again, please advice

You might want to check with your dealer as there is a flash for this problem.

i havent had time to take this to the dealer for the flash update for the egr valve code p1404, i checked my CEL yesterday, i had other codes pop up p0420 and p0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold bank 1 and bank 2, do these codes have something in common, where do you suggest that i start first?

oh, 1 more question this car has a egr selenoid valve, would you suggest i replace also?
