1999 Ford F150 V6 4.2L Engine P0174 Code - Poor Idle and Stalling at Red Lights

Model: 99 f150 v6 4.2 Fault Code: P0174 Posted: 2016-10-30 08:10

I recently replaced the mass airflow sensor, fuel filter, intake air temperature sensor, and air filter on my 1999 Ford F15-0 V6 4.2L engine. Despite these changes, the vehicle still runs poorly when idling and tends to stall when coming to a stop at red lights. The check engine light is triggered by code P0174, indicating a lean condition in Bank 2 of the engine. I'm seeking advice on how to properly diagnose this issue, especially since the symptoms persist after multiple component replacements.

What prompted you to replace the mass airflow sensor, fuel filter, intake air temperature sensor, and air filter? Were there any other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present? For P0174 specifically, start by checking for vacuum leaks—PVC hoses and elbows are common failure points. Also consider verifying fuel pressure levels. More details: https://www.obd-codes.com/p0174

How can I safely check the fuel pressure on a 1999 Ford F150 V6 4.2L engine?

I replaced several deteriorated hoses as well. I changed all listed components because they were commonly cited in troubleshooting guides. After replacing the hoses, I sprayed carburetor cleaner around the connections and saw no improvement—no hissing or performance change.
