99 durango 5.2L 1899 code
my durango is throwing a code of P1899, which is supposed to be the park neutral safety switch. I replaced the switch with a new one, and it is tsill throwing the same code. i have been trying for a week to figure out why online, with no luck what so ever. the black and white wire going to the switch has no current in the key on or off position. i was hoping that by getting on here i may be able to find out where this wire comes from and what else it may be hooked up too, in hopes that maybe i will be able to find where and what the real problem is. is it possible that ther is a faulty relay between the power source to this wire and the switch? any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.
The park/neutral safety switch supplies a ground to the starter relay. When the trans is in park or neutral the switch contacts are closed to ground. This wire is spliced and the other wire goes to the PCM at pin # 6 of the C1 PCM connector. Quick test would be to unplug the neutral switch and see if the engine will crank in other gear positions. Be very careful as the vehicle can start in gear. Park brake on and foot on brake when doing this or pull the ASD relay so the engine will not start. If it will crank the black/ white tracer wire is either shorted to ground or the PCM is possibly bad
