1999 Dodge Grand Caravan P0401 and P0403 Fault Diagnosis: EGR Valve Location and Repair Guide

Model: 99 Dodge Grand Caravan Fault Code: P0401 Posted: 2007-07-20 11:36

The check engine light is on, and the vehicle has diagnostic codes P0401 (EGR System Efficiency Below Threshold) and P0403 (EGR Flow Control Malfunction). Based on my research, these codes are commonly associated with a faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. While I'm not a professional mechanic, I'm comfortable performing basic repairs and would like detailed guidance to locate and replace the EGR valve. The 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan has accumulated over 100,000 miles, so this issue may be related to age-related wear. Can anyone provide clear instructions on where to find the EGR valve? Specifically, I'm looking for step-by-step directions and visual references to help me identify it during inspection or replacement. Thanks in advance for any helpful tips!

The EGR valve is located on the driver's side of the engine bay, just beneath the intake manifold plenum where the throttle body mounts. To access it more clearly, remove the air snorkel. You'll see a remotely mounted vacuum solenoid with a two-wire connector near the throttle body. Follow the hose from this solenoid down to locate the EGR valve itself. This is a common location and often accessible without removing major components.

drivers side of the engine bay, just under the intake manifold plenum where the throttle body bolts up! If you take the air snokel off you'll see it better! It has a remote mountted vaccum solenoid with a 2 wire connector going to it that you should be able to see near the throttle body. Follow the hose from the solenoid down to the valve and you'll find it!
