1998 Mustang GT OBD2 Fault Codes P0430 and P1151 - Help Needed with Rich Running and Oil Burn

Model: 98 mustang gt Fault Code: P0430 Posted: 2010-09-08 10:49

I own a 1998 Mustang GT with 150,000 miles on the odometer. Recently, my check engine light activated, and the OBD2 diagnostic system returned codes P0430 and P1150. Previously, my car ran rich, but I resolved that issue by installing a new air filter. However, it has now started running rich again. Additionally, I've noticed an increased rate of oil consumption compared to before. Another concern is that the fuel gauge no longer moves — I'm unsure what component this refers to, but it seems to be malfunctioning.

Replace the upstream O2 sensor on Bank 2 (driver's side) with a new OEM part from the dealership rather than aftermarket. If the P0430 code persists after this replacement, it may indicate that the catalytic converter is failing — however, verify this by driving the vehicle for several miles post-replacement and monitoring the codes. Note: Does the oil consumption result from actual burning or a visible leak? Regarding the fuel gauge issue, inspect both the wiring and ground connection to the fuel sending unit, as well as the sending unit itself for faults.
