1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo P0463 Code: Battery Drain & Alternator Charging Issue
I own a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and am experiencing a persistent battery drain issue. After replacing both the battery and alternator, the vehicle still shuts down unexpectedly. A diagnostic scan revealed only the P0463 code. The alternator reads only 11.4 volts under load, but when connected to a new battery, it runs briefly before dying. I'm concerned whether this P0463 code is directly causing the battery drain or if the issue lies with the alternator not charging properly. Could the alternator be faulty despite passing a test? Or could there be another electrical component (like parasitic draw) draining the battery? Any guidance on diagnosing this would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with a recurring battery drain issue. After replacing two batteries and installing a new alternator, the car still dies unexpectedly. A code scan showed only P0463. I'm wondering if this code is directly related to my battery drain or if it's actually an indicator of a deeper electrical problem like poor charging from the alternator. Any insight would be helpful.
