1998 Chevy Silverado P0335 Code: CKP Sensor Failure and Engine Stalling Issues

Model: 98 Chevy Silverado Fault Code: P0335 Posted: 2014-03-27 18:28

My 1998 Chevrolet Silverado is experiencing intermittent power loss while driving—sometimes cutting out for a split second, other times shutting off completely. After checking the diagnostic trouble codes, I found P0335, indicating a crankshaft position (CKP) sensor fault. I replaced the CKP sensor, but the problem persists. The camshaft position (CMP) sensor is still showing issues, and the engine continues to stall or lose power unexpectedly. I'm concerned about whether the relearn procedure was properly completed after replacing the CKP sensor, as this is a known requirement for proper sensor synchronization in older Silverado models.

The CKP sensor requires a relearn procedure after replacement. Ensure that both the crankshaft position (CKP) and camshaft position (CMP) sensors are properly synchronized using a capable OBD2 scanner. Additionally, check for any remote starter systems—older models like the 1998 Silverado were prone to ignition switch failures, which can cause intermittent stalling. A Google search on '1998 Chevy Silverado ignition switch failure' may provide further insight into this common issue.
