1998 Chrysler Grand Caravan 3.3L P0700 and P0740 Code - Emissions Failure & Recurring DTCs
Hi everyone, I recently inherited a 1998 Chrysler Grand Caravan with 208,000 miles. I'm unable to register the vehicle because it fails emissions testing. The car runs smoothly, drives well, and shifts properly—however, it consistently throws two diagnostic trouble codes: P0700 and P0740. These are the only codes present, and they reappear after driving 5 to 10 miles following a reset. The previous owner replaced both speed sensors about five months ago to renew registration. I've already checked the TCC solenoid and performed wiring inspections, but no other issues have been identified. Given that this is my first experience with a Chrysler vehicle, I'm unfamiliar with its unique systems or troubleshooting procedures. I’m not looking to spend money on major transmission repairs—just want to understand what’s causing these recurring codes and how to resolve them without costly fixes. Any insights into the root cause of P0700 and P0740 in a 1998 Grand Caravan with a 3.3L engine would be greatly appreciated.
You're on the right track. Possible causes of these DTCs include: - Damaged or loose wiring harness connections to the transmission - Open or shorted circuits in the transmission wiring - Faulty Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid - Issues with the Transmission Control Module (TCM) For more details, see: P0740
