1997 Subaru Legacy GT 2.5L Misfire P0302 - Diagnosis After Replacing Plugs, Wires, and Injectors

Model: 97 Subaru Fault Code: P0302 Posted: 2006-10-08 12:06

I have a 1997 Subaru Legacy GT with a 2.5L engine that is consistently showing a misfire detected by the OBD2 code P0302. I've already replaced all spark plugs, ignition wires, and the coil pack. To isolate the issue, I swapped the spark plugs and wires between cylinders, and also exchanged injectors — however, the misfire persists specifically in cylinder 2. The fuel injectors for cylinder 2 show proper pulse signal, and I have thoroughly checked for vacuum leaks with a smoke machine. Despite these efforts, the P0302 code remains active. Any insight into potential underlying causes or next steps would be greatly appreciated.

Have you performed a compression test to rule out mechanical issues in cylinder 2?

Compression test results show consistent and equal readings across all cylinders, indicating no significant mechanical failure.

The coil pack has been replaced; however, the misfire persists in cylinder 2 — could there be an issue with the injector or wiring harness?
