I own a 1997 Saturn with the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) lighting up. After checking the diagnostic codes, I found P0141 — indicating an issue with the oxygen sensor in bank 1, sensor 2 (post-catalytic converter). The MIL stayed on during several starts and then turned off. However, my OBD-II code reader still shows P0141 even after multiple engine cycles. The sensor may be failing, especially given its age — over 14 years old. It usually takes two to three drive cycles for the code to clear if no underlying issue exists. If the P0141 returns, first verify voltage and ground at the wiring harness and connector before replacing the oxygen sensor. Thanks for the insight. My code reader still shows P0141 after several starts and runs. I plan to inspect the wiring and connector, checking voltage and ground. If those are normal, I’ll replace the O2 sensor. Why does the MIL go out when the oxygen sensor is faulty? Also, I should review the freeze frame data to understand exactly what triggered the MIL activation and P0141 code. This car was purchased new in 1997 and now has over 207,000 miles — a testament to its reliability. Sadly, GM discontinued the Saturn model.
