P0450 and P0447 Faults on 1997 Nissan Sentra: Evaporative System Issues After Winter Exposure
My 1997 Nissan Sentra has recently triggered two evaporative (EVAP) system fault codes: P0450 and P0447. This issue arose after severe winter conditions, where snow and ice damaged the low-hanging EVAP components. I initially addressed P0443 and P0446 — both related to purge/vent malfunctions — by replacing the vent control solenoid. I first installed a 1998-style vent control unit with a larger canister, as the original 1997 setup used a smaller canister and its solenoids are not interchangeable. This replacement failed. After sourcing a genuine 1997 model vent control assembly, the codes cleared temporarily. However, after performing a quick drive cycle (MA > VT > NH > MA) with a faulty clutch engaged, the EVAP system triggered new errors: P0450 and P01447. I confirmed that P01447 was present before the state transition as well. Upon scanning, I identified P0450. The 1997 Sentra appears to use two MAP/boost sensors in its EVAP system — one front and one rear. While I have not yet touched the front sensor, I plan to first replace or swap the rear sensor and monitor for changes. Regarding P01447 (Evaporative System Purge Monitoring), it may be linked to the MAP/boost sensors. The front sensor has a direct path to ground, while the rear one features a right-angle design — though I don’t believe many of these fail. My question is: Are the MAP/boost sensors interchangeable between front and rear on this model? Do all years use identical sensor numbers or configurations? Could either sensor be responsible for triggering P0144 or P0450? I will first complete a clutch engagement test, then return to troubleshooting the EVAP system. Any insights or suggestions — especially about sensor compatibility and wiring — would be greatly appreciated.
