1997 Ford Ranger V6 4L: P0171 and P0175 O2 Sensor Codes with No Feedback from All Six Sensors

Model: 97 Ford Ranger Fault Code: P0171 Posted: 2007-05-18 19:00

Hello, I recently purchased a 1997 Ford Ranger with a V6 4.0L engine, which started showing up two diagnostic trouble codes: P0171 and P0174. After using an AutoEnginuity OBD2 scanner to check the system, I noticed that none of the six oxygen (O2) sensors are providing any feedback data. This is causing confusion about the root cause. I'm looking for help identifying whether this issue stems from a sensor failure or a more systemic problem such as vacuum leaks or fuel trim imbalances. Any insights into how to diagnose or resolve this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Phillip

Are you looking for help with your OBD2 scanner not responding to the O2 sensors, or are you trying to diagnose the underlying fuel trim issue? Here's a hint: start with vacuum system checks and look for any potential leaks.

There is extensive discussion on this forum regarding P0171 and P0174 codes. Using the search function will yield many relevant threads that cover common troubleshooting steps—such as inspecting intake manifolds, vacuum lines, and fuel system components. If you're still having trouble after reviewing these, feel free to post a follow-up with more specific details.
