97 Chevy pickup 4.3 with P0300 code

I have a 97 chevy Cheyene pickup with a 4.3, automatic. It has 109,000 miles on it, and has been a very dependable vehicle. But lately has been having check engine come on it the engine is being pulled down like when going up a grade. When it does this the engine runs rough and the check engine flashes. It eventually stops flashing and stays on solid. I have had this problem off and on for quite some time, but have never been able to chase down the problem. It is now happening more often, so I broke down and purchased a code reader. The code reader one time gave me the code p0304, but now is just p0300. I checked for loose plug wires but did not find anything loose. I would appreciate any help that you can give me. I have had this vehicle to the shop for it, but by then the code has cleared, and the check engine has went out. Have you checked in the forums already for causes of misfires and those codes on GM trucks? You'll find the cause for your codes there.
