97 chevy blazer p0300 solid then blinks
hey all. First I want to introduce myself as Josh, and let you all know that all my driving is done on highways, not city because this neck of the woods is all highway. I have a 1997 chevy Blazer, 4.3 Vortec 4x4 with 151xxx miles on it. Ive had it for a year now, a year and 21 days to be exact. It ran fine, as with every vehicle, when I bought it I gave it the routine tune-up. Oil, trans, plugs wires, cap, rotor. Well over the winter, my SES light came on. It gave me, at first, the maf sensor low input code, which I looked up and found that my maf might be dirty. I took it off and cleaned it, cleared the code and it hasn't come back. A couple weeks after that, the ses came back with a 440 emissions code. I looked around, found a few bad vaccum lines, replaced them and cleared the code. A couple days after that code was cleared, that damn light came back on and at this point im getting fed up. So I checked it and ill be damned, the dreaded p0300 code. Which, as we all know, p0300 can be a multitude of things. Most of which I have already diagnosed and checked/replaced. So to troubleshoot and clear this code the first time I replaced the plugs and wires again. (It hasn't even been a year since I initially did it, but I didn't know what else I could do at that point). It seemed to help a little bit, as the code didn't come back for a while. Well I took a trip back to warren, 100 miles away from my current location. My light didn't turn on, the truck ran great, and I thought everything was fine. After I got there, I checked my fluids and everything was normal. The next morning I checked them again to make sure before departing back home and my radiator was empty, bone dry. I noticed the white smoke and shut the truck down, checked and sure enough I blew a gasket, all the fluid was through my engine. After the entire 3 days process of tearing the top end down, replacing all the gaskets, and plugs (Threw some cheap autolites in there because i was beyond broke) and putting it all back together, everything was good again. So I brought the truck home and at the 68.4 mile mark, the ses light came BACK on. Well it was only only another 35-40 miles but I stopped at a DQ and checked and yep it was my p0300 code. So I got the truck home and replaced the plugs again. It was good for a week but then it got worse.. On my way to work on the 18th of this month, my ses light came on solid.. then after a few minutes it began blinking.. it blinked 14 times then became solid again and didn't blink anymore. After I got it home after work, i seen it was that freaking p0300 code again and this time I didn't know what to do so I let it sit.. and thats where im at now.. it has sat for roughly 2 weeks now because im at a complete loss. now heres what it did when the light began blinking. The truck would hesitate at 2k rpm range, between 2k and 2.5k. Not bucking kind of hesitate but bog down like it was trying to push through a puddle of molasses. It would lose power and after it sat at that range for a minute or two, the ses light will blink 14 times then go solid, then after another 5 to 7 minutes, the light will blink 16 times and then be solid again. During the last stretch of the highway before my exit, the light blinked 24 times, became solid. It has a hard time getting over that mark unless I push my gas pedal all the way down to the floor. Which then causes the truck to burst from the 2.5 mark up to 4 or 5k and shoot forward like a bat out of hell. Which incidentally eliminatels any sort of gas mileage I could ever possibly dream of having. Im at a loss for what is causing this at the moment. Now, the SES light would pop on before the lim gasket blew. But it would just pop on and be solid all the time. Never blinked. It started blinking after all this had been done. I haven't changed my cap and rotor as of yet since those are just over a year old and under 10k miles. Its only been 5k miles since I got the truck. So I guess im looking for ideas and possibly anyone else that has experienced this and fixed it so that I know what im doing right and what im doing wrong.
Have you checked compression yet? Is the cap and rotor OEM or aftermarket? Check for a plugged cat, restricted exhaust. Good luck and keep us posted.
