1996 Mustang V6 with Dual Exhaust and Two Cats: P0156 O2 Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 2 Circuit Fault Diagnosis
I have a 1996 Mustang V6 equipped with a modified dual exhaust system and two catalytic converters. The vehicle is throwing fault code P0156, which indicates an oxygen sensor circuit fault for Bank 2, Sensor 2. After connecting a scan tool, the O2 sensor reads a constant 1.275V — no fluctuation — suggesting it's not sending valid data to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). I suspect the sensor is faulty and would need replacement (approximately $75). However, I'm seeking input from others who have encountered this issue or know of solutions. Any experience with P0156 on a 1996 Mustang V6 with dual exhaust setup? Thanks in advance for any insights. ATB Aeroman.
Since the sensor is receiving power and voltage, and considering the vehicle's age, it's highly likely that the O2 sensor has failed. Replacing it should resolve the P0156 code. I'd recommend doing so — good luck, and please update us on your results after replacement.
