1996 Monte Carlo LS P0441 and P0507 Codes: Diagnosis and Fixes

Model: 96 Monte Carlo LS Fault Code: P0441 Posted: 2007-03-03 11:49

I've read a lot of threads, but nothing specifically addresses my 1996 Monte Carlo LS. So I'm turning to the community for help. My car is running optimally overall, with only a moderately noticeable high engine RPM when idling—especially in a parking lot at around 5 mph. Under all other driving conditions, it's fine. The issue doesn't seem to be throttle linkage, as I've thoroughly checked and lubricated all components while my partner revved the engine in park and neutral. I'm currently seeing two diagnostic trouble codes: P0441 and P0507. - P0441: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has determined that the purge flow in the evaporative emission control system is incorrect for current engine operating conditions. - P0507: Engine RPM is abnormally high. These codes have been cleared, but they return consistently. I suspect a single underlying issue—possibly a faulty solenoid—is causing both problems. However, I'm not sure if that's accurate or if there's another root cause. Can someone please confirm what I might be missing? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
