PO132, PO135, PO141, PO138 OBD2 Error Codes for 1996 Dodge Dakota - Idle Instability After Muffler Repair

Model: 96 Dakota Fault Code: P0132 Posted: 2010-06-26 10:33

My check engine light came on recently on my 1996 Dodge Dakota, and shortly after I noticed the truck was struggling to idle smoothly. After sitting still for 3-5 minutes, it would exhibit erratic idle behavior—revving up and down—though this has not occurred recently. Upon inspection, I found a significant hole in the muffler and replaced it. After resetting the engine control unit (ECU), I let the truck idle briefly and then started driving again; however, the check engine light returned. The vehicle now displays OBD2 fault codes PO132, PO135, PO141, and PO138, all related to emissions system performance. Given that the muffler was recently replaced, I'm wondering whether these codes are due to sensor issues or if there could be another underlying cause. Any insights on what steps to take next would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the idle speed appears to be hunting—rising and falling unpredictably. Has the exhaust converter been properly installed or plugged? Check for a blown fuse labeled '02' (oxygen sensor) as it could affect sensor readings. After verifying all connections, recheck the OBD2 codes and monitor engine performance. Have any recent modifications or repairs been made to the truck?
