1996 Chevrolet 1500 Truck P0102 and P0340 Trouble Codes: Diagnosis and Solutions

Model: 96 Chevy 1500 Fault Code: P0102 Posted: 2008-03-03 21:51

I recently installed a new 305/5.0L V8 engine in my 1996 Chevrolet 1500 truck and am now encountering two OBD-II diagnostic trouble codes: P0102 and P0340. The P0102 code indicates a mass airflow (MAF) sensor circuit malfunction. I've tried swapping the MAF sensor from my other 1997 GMC 1500 truck, but the issue persists—both sensors function properly in their original vehicles. For the P0340 code, which relates to the crankshaft position sensor (CKP), I'm unsure how to properly troubleshoot or what voltage readings are expected under normal operating conditions. Any guidance on diagnosing these codes specifically for a 1996 Chevy 1500 with a 5.0L engine would be greatly appreciated.

The P0340 code is often linked to a faulty crankshaft position sensor or improper distributor timing. Check the sensor wiring, ground connections, and ensure the engine is properly timed. For a 1996 Chevy 1500 with a 5.0L engine, timing belt alignment and sensor signal integrity are critical.

Thanks for the input. I'll inspect the crankshaft position sensor and verify the distributor timing before moving forward with further diagnostics.
