1995 Park Avenue OBD1 with OBD2 Connector: Fault Codes P1640 and P1970 Explained

Model: 95 Park Ave Fault Code: P2177 Posted: 2014-06-22 02:50

Hello everyone, I own a 1995 Park Avenue, which is known to have an OBD1-based engine control module but includes an OBD2 connector. Recently, I've been encountering two diagnostic trouble codes: P1640 and P1970. I'm not sure what these codes mean or how to interpret them. Can anyone provide clarification on the possible causes or troubleshooting steps for these specific fault codes? I'd appreciate any insights from experienced users or technical sources.

Is your vehicle a 3.8L engine with VIN ending in '8'? Any noticeable driveability issues like stalling, rough idle, or loss of power?

I believe P1640 relates to a quad driver circuit issue. However, I don't have clear documentation on P1970—could you please confirm the exact code? I'll cross-reference with another technical source for accuracy.

If you have a digital multimeter, I can walk through how to test the circuit associated with P1640. This would involve checking voltage and continuity on specific wiring harness connections. Could you also confirm whether the second code is indeed P1970 or if there might be a typo?
