Engine Code P2197: Diagnosis and Solutions for Lean Condition in [Vehicle Model]

Model: 2197 Fault Code: P2197 Posted: 2015-08-23 12:45

I'm experiencing engine code P2197 on my [Vehicle Model]. I've already replaced the O2 sensor (B2S1), checked all wiring connections, replaced the fuel filter (which was severely clogged), inspected and repaired vacuum lines, replaced intake gaskets, changed spark plugs and swapped the coil packs from front to back. I also cleaned the MAF sensor using contact cleaner. After completing a full drive cycle, the P2197 code persists. The vehicle runs smoothly and consistently achieves 25 MPG. Despite these efforts, the issue remains unresolved. Can anyone provide insight into what might be causing this lean condition? Thank you for your help.

Please confirm the engine type and model year of your vehicle. Code P2197 indicates a sensor B2S1 detecting a lean mixture. Start with fundamental checks for lean conditions—verify fuel pressure, inspect for vacuum leaks, and ensure proper fuel delivery. A fuel pressure test is essential to rule out low-pressure issues.

I have a 3.0L engine on my [Vehicle Model]. I don't currently have access to a fuel pressure gauge, and I've thoroughly inspected the exhaust system—no visible leaks are present. The injectors appear clean, and spark plugs look in good condition.

Check for vacuum leaks, with a scanner look at FT's, and o2 readings.... maybe see if you can force a o2 rich by spraying carb clean confirm they are responding.
