2017 Chrysler Caravan P0300 Misfire: Causes, Fixes, and Safety Advice for Long-Distance Trips
Last week, I drove my 2017 Chrysler Caravan 4 miles to the store to get oil and filters. After returning 15 minutes later, the vehicle exhibited a misfire and hesitation upon startup. I managed to limp it home, during which the check engine light activated halfway through the drive. I used an OBD2 scanner and detected code P0300 indicating a random/multiple cylinder misfire with fuel trim values for Bank 2 both at -32. I inspected all wiring connections and performed a vacuum leak test, but found no issues. After clearing the code, I changed the oil and air filter. The vehicle ran smoothly afterward. On Saturday, I added a can of injector cleaner and drove it 300 miles without any problems, achieving 29 MPG. With 45,000 miles on the odometer, I'm planning to drive from Minneapolis to Los Angeles this weekend. However, I'm unsure whether to proceed given the history of misfiring. I'm seeking advice on whether this issue is resolved or if further diagnostics are needed before attempting a long-distance journey.
No other diagnostic codes were present, and the -32 fuel trim reading suggests an injector may be malfunctioning. I recommend adding a can of SeaFoam or Techron fuel treatment to help clean injectors. Additionally, drive the vehicle for several miles around town before your trip to ensure stability and confirm that the issue does not reoccur.
