2016 Ford F150 Multiple Short to Ground Codes: U0151, U0452, B11D8, B1472, B1330 and More - CAN Bus Diagnosis Guide

Model: 2016 F150 Fault Code: B1088 Posted: 2020-04-22 15:37

Hi everyone, I'm currently troubleshooting a 2016 Ford F150 that's displaying multiple 'short to ground' fault codes related to the horn, automatic lights switch, headlights, and other electrical systems. After reviewing various sources, I suspect an issue within the CAN bus network—however, I'm unsure where to begin diagnosing. The current trouble codes are: - U0151-00 (-87) - U0452-00 - B11D8-01 - B1472-14 - B1330-08 - U0131-87 (-00) - U0401-00 (-81) (-82) - B1088-87 - U0420-82 - U0100-00 All of these codes point to potential short-to-ground faults, with several involving the RCM (Receiver Control Module), which is linked to U0151. I've confirmed that all codes reappear after a complete ECU reset or battery disconnection. The vehicle was recently involved in a crash and has been repaired—no aftermarket electrical devices have been added. All wiring appears stock, but there's no communication between the RCM and other modules. I’ve tested the CAN bus resistance using a multimeter: high-side measurement at 61.8 ohms, low-side at 2.2 ohms (with 2.7 ohms measured during high-circuit testing), which falls within acceptable ranges. However, despite this, short-to-ground faults persist. I’m now looking for guidance on how to verify power and ground connections to affected modules using a reliable wiring diagram—such as ALLDATA or similar resources. I also suspect that the truck may have an additional CAN bus gateway module that connects the PCM with other subsystems. Any advice on next steps, especially in identifying which specific module is causing the short-to-ground issue, would be greatly appreciated.

My CAN bus readings show a high-side resistance of 61.8 ohms and low-side at 2.7 ohms, with a low measurement of 2.2 ohms—this indicates normal CAN bus continuity and suggests the issue is not in the CAN wiring itself.

Have you added any aftermarket electrical devices or modifications to your vehicle? Has there been any recent work done, such as repairs after a collision? Do the error codes reappear after resetting the ECU or disconnecting the battery?

All systems are stock. The truck was recently repaired following a crash with no aftermarket additions. I also have no communication between the RCM and other modules, which may point to a deeper wiring or module-level issue.

So yes—every listed code returns after an ECU reset or battery disconnection. Since CAN bus resistance readings are within normal limits, I recommend verifying power and ground connections for each affected module using a detailed wiring diagram (e.g., ALLDATA). The vehicle may have a gateway module that connects the PCM to other modules via CAN bus. Reviewing the module-to-CAN relationships in the wiring schematic could help identify which component is causing the short-to-ground fault. I don’t have specific knowledge of this system, but if you share your progress, I’d be happy to assist further.
