2013 Nissan Frontier P0021 P0011 P0501 - Rough Idle and No Acceleration After Transmission Repair

Model: 2013 nissan frontier Fault Code: P0011 Posted: 2016-09-10 22:16

I own a 2013 Nissan Frontier with a 6-speed manual transmission and V6 engine. The truck was running smoothly until the transfer case bearing started making noise. I recently removed the transmission and replaced the clutch assembly. Since then, the vehicle now exhibits rough idle and fails to accelerate. The OBD2 scanner shows persistent fault codes: P0021 (Variable Valve Timing - Cam Position A/B), P0011 (Variable Valve Timing - Cam Position B), and P0501 (Idle Air Control System Malfunction). I have already replaced both VCT solenoids and both cam position sensors. Despite these replacements, the issue persists. The truck starts but stalls immediately when shifting into gear and releasing the clutch—no fuel delivery occurs during this phase. I suspect a wiring or sensor connection issue, or possibly an oil-related problem affecting valve timing. Could there be a missing electrical connection or low engine oil pressure impacting VCT operation? Any insights or troubleshooting steps for these codes in a 2013 Nissan Frontier would be greatly appreciated.

For the VCT issues, first verify wiring connections at both VCT solenoids. Low engine oil pressure or oil sludge can impair VCT performance. I recommend trying a detergent additive like 'Risolone' to clean internal components—this may improve valve timing function before further disassembly. Also, check vehicle speedometer behavior as P0501 is often linked to idle air control issues. See more details here: https://www.obd-codes.com/p0500

I apologize—this wasn't a P0501 issue originally. The truck was running fine before the transmission and clutch work. After replacing the clutch, it now starts but fails to accelerate. When shifting into gear and releasing the clutch, it immediately stalls with no fuel delivery. This suggests a potential issue with the throttle body or idle control system, possibly related to the VCT fault codes.

I have already replaced both cam position sensors located at the rear of the engine and both VCT solenoids. No improvement has been observed despite these repairs.
