P0710 Diagnostic and Transmission Issues on 2013 Ford Escape EcoBoost

Model: 2013 Ford Escape Ecoboost Fault Code: P0710 Posted: 2018-08-02 17:04

My 2013 Ford Escape with a 1.6L EcoBoost engine and automatic transmission has shown a 'Transmission Fault - Service Now' warning light for the past 2 to 3 weeks. I visited a Ford dealership and requested a transmission fluid flush, as the vehicle is now at 83,000 miles. The original transmission fluid was used during the service. After returning home about one mile from the dealership, the same warning light reappeared. This has been concerning me significantly. Additionally, I recently had an oil change. Since then, I've noticed a significant amount of blue smoke coming from the exhaust pipe—first thing in the morning after the service. This is alarming and raises further concerns about engine or transmission health. I'm now considering replacing my vehicle, though it's not financially feasible. Any insights on what might be causing this P0710 code and how to address it? Note: The P0710 code indicates a fault in the Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor 'A' circuit. Possible causes include damaged connectors, corroded terminals, loose wiring, missing or damaged seals, or issues with the TFT sensor or transmission internal wiring harness frame. A PCM flash may also be relevant but hasn't resolved the issue.

First, clarify whether you asked the dealer to perform a transmission service or specifically address the P0710 code. The P0710 code relates to the Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor 'A' circuit. Potential causes include damaged connectors, pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires, missing or damaged seals, or faults in the TFT sensor or internal wiring harness within the transmission. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may also be involved.

A week prior to visiting the dealer, I noticed the 'Transmission Fault' warning light appear. A local mechanic identified it as P0710 and advised me to take it to a dealership. I scheduled a transmission fluid flush, which the technician believed would resolve the issue. However, I have not yet followed up with the dealer due to growing concerns about reliability. My previous vehicle was a 2012 Ford Freestyle with AWD and a CVT transmission—its transmission failed completely, and Ford requested $9,000 for a replacement. That experience made me switch to the 2013 Escape. Now I'm worried about another transmission failure. I also had a PCM flash performed as part of the service. Despite this, the 'Transmission Fault' warning has reappeared on multiple occasions—most recently on my way home and again two days later (last Tuesday). This suggests the issue may not be fully resolved or could point to deeper mechanical problems.
