2013 Toyota Equinox P0716, P0700, P07BF and P0825 Trouble: High RPMs and Transmission Clunking at Stops
Hi everyone, I'm experiencing recurring transmission issues with my 2013 Toyota Equinox. The vehicle is throwing several diagnostic trouble codes including P0700 (Transmission Control System Malfunction), P0716 (Transmission Input Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction), P07BF (Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction), and a pending code P0825 (Transmission Overheating). A mechanic previously advised me to ignore the P0420 (Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold) until symptoms appear, but I'm concerned about its potential impact. The issue started after driving approximately 30 minutes at around 70 mph. After stopping for about 5 minutes, I attempted to resume driving and noticed that the RPMs spiked to 4,000 when traveling at 55 mph. Upon restarting, the transmission clunked severely when shifting into reverse and then into drive—making it feel like it wasn't in first gear. The car would barely move under these conditions. I managed to get home safely after driving only about 5 miles. After arriving home, I took the vehicle to Oriellys for code reading, where it drove smoothly with no issues during a 20-minute drive. However, just minutes later, the same symptoms returned: high RPMs and difficulty shifting into first gear at stops. This pattern repeated again yesterday—after a normal ride, the car behaved normally for about 20 minutes before exhibiting the same problems. I'm concerned this could be related to sensor faults or transmission control issues, especially given the recurring P0716 and P07BF codes. Any insights or experiences with similar symptoms on 2013 Equinox models would be greatly appreciated.
