2012 Ram 2500 P0191 Fuel Rail Pressure Issue and OBD2 Code Explanation

Model: 2012 Ram 2500 Fault Code: P0191 Posted: 2018-09-10 08:26

I recently encountered a P0191 fault code on my 2012 Ram 2500. After replacing the fuel filter, the code cleared temporarily. However, during a long drive, it reappeared along with another code—initially believed to be an 'eye' error (later identified as EGD, or Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor). Given that I was driving in an area suspected of contaminated fuel, I replaced the fuel filter again. The codes cleared at that time, but returned approximately 300 miles later. Upon returning home, I performed a full oil change and the codes disappeared once more. I have two questions: First, what is the relationship between the EGD (Fuel Rail Pressure) code and the P0191 fault? Second, what are the normal fuel rail pressure readings for a 2012 Ram 2500? Note: The P0191 code indicates an issue with the fuel rail pressure sensor, which monitors fuel system pressure. A malfunctioning sensor or inconsistent pressure can trigger this diagnostic trouble code.

#1 - 'Eye' error was likely a typo for EGD (Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor) code. #2 - Reference: https://www.obd-codes.com/p0191

1: The correct code is EGD, not 'eye'—this was likely an autocorrect error. 2: Normal fuel rail pressure for a 2012 Ram 2500 typically ranges between 30 psi and 45 psi (approximately 2.1 to 3.1 bar), though some systems may report values up to 9.3 kPa under specific conditions. My readings were previously in the range of 0.5–9.3 kPa, which is below normal; now they're within the expected range after maintenance.
