2011 Dodge Power Wagon P0305 Misfire: Causes, Fixes & Budget-Friendly Solutions

Model: 2011 Ram Power Wagon Fault Code: P0305 Posted: 2016-06-07 20:15

My 2011 Dodge Power Wagon is experiencing stuttering, hesitation, and shaking. The check engine light is on, and AutoZone diagnosed a P0305 code indicating a misfire in cylinder #5. While I replaced the coil pack, which initially reduced the shaking, the problem returned after driving longer. After disconnecting the negative battery cable to reset the light, the warning came back and symptoms reappeared. With a tight budget, I'm looking for affordable troubleshooting steps—could it be the fuel injector? I need clear, factual guidance without overspending.

Which engine model? P0305 indicates a misfire in cylinder #5. Possible causes: > Ignition: No spark — check the spark plug; look for black (wet), dry, or tan color. > Fuel: Injector not pulsing, leaking, or clogged. > Mechanical: Low compression or vacuum leak. Start by removing and inspecting the #5 spark plug. If replacing, use OEM-quality plugs—avoid cheap alternatives. Add a fuel system cleaner like SeaFoam or Techron. Perform a fuel pressure test and monitor for drops (e.g., X psi in 5 minutes) during a KOEO (key-off engine-off) condition. Run a compression test on cylinder #5. Check for vacuum leaks. These steps are cost-effective and can identify the root cause without expensive repairs.

I have a 2012 Grand Caravan with 3.6 6cyl with the aluminum heads. Head replaced at 48,000. Head replaced again at 96,000. Dodge has extended the warranty on the heads to 150,000 miles or 10 years. It has the same issues. Misfire, jerking transmission due to computer issues due to misfire, etc. etc. Engine is a piece of crap but take it into the dealership but expect to wait because they will be waiting for parts from the distributors since so many are having issues.
