2011 Ford Edge Evap System P0455 - Gas Smell and No Fuel Cap?

Model: 2011 Ford Edge Fault Code: P0455 Posted: 2016-05-29 15:09

I own a 2011 Ford Edge that has been emitting a gasoline smell since I purchased it new. The dealership was unable to identify the source of the odor. Now, at 100,770 km (over warranty), the check engine light activated and the diagnostic code P0455 appeared — indicating a large evaporative emission system leak. My question: What should I look for? There is no visible fuel cap on this vehicle.

By 'no gas cap,' I assume you're referring to the fuel fill flap valve? This issue has been reported in similar model years. Check out this video for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlK2qekqX5s. It might be a simple fix — try replacing or inspecting the fuel fill flap valve before resorting to smoke testing the entire evap system.
