2011 Chevrolet Equinox P0010 Code: Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit Open Bank 1 - Diagnosis and Fix

Model: 2011 Equinox Fault Code: P0010 Posted: 2018-02-18 20:51

Yesterday, my daughter-in-law's 2011 Chevrolet Equinox displayed a low power warning and then suddenly died. It was towed home and we managed to get it running briefly in the yard. After shutting off the engine, the vehicle will no longer start. An OBD2 scan reveals a P0010 code: 'Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit Open - Bank 1'. I'm looking for guidance on how to diagnose and fix this issue. Any insights or steps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Randy.

Check the electrical connector at the camshaft position actuator — ensure it's tight, free from corrosion, and properly seated. Perform a KOEO (Key On, Engine Off) test to verify there is 12 volts present on the wires. DTC P0010: Intake Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Control Circuit. Engine oil condition is critical for VVT systems — always ensure the oil is changed to prevent solenoid failure. Consider adding a bottle of 'RISOLONE', a detergent additive designed to control varnish and sludge buildup. If the solenoid is faulty, replace both actuators (Bank 1 and Bank 2). Search online for '2.4 camshaft solenoid Chevy Equinox' to find detailed YouTube tutorials on replacement procedures.

What does KOEO mean? I'm not familiar with that term.

Did you confirm the key was off and engine was off before testing?

KOEO stands for Key On, Engine Off. This is a standard diagnostic procedure to test electrical systems without starting the engine.

No voltage is detected when the key is off, but there's approximately 2.0 volts present when the key is on.
