2011 Chevy Cruze P2135 Code: Does Throttle Body Replacement Require ECM Reprogramming?

Model: 2011 Chevy Cruze Fault Code: P2135 Posted: 2015-01-05 17:39

My 2011 Chevrolet Cruze has been entering 'reduced power mode' and displaying the 'Service Stabil Trak' message multiple times this week. After turning off the ignition and restarting, the vehicle returns to normal temporarily but consistently shows the P213

First, the circuit should be tested — a diagnostic code does not automatically indicate a part replacement. There are two potentiometers in the throttle position sensor (TPS) system. The issue could stem from the electronic throttle body, faulty connectors, or wiring between components. While a malfunctioning PCM is possible, it's rare. Without proper circuit testing, the root cause remains uncertain. Replacing the throttle body may seem like a solution, but if the code returns afterward, you're back to square one. ECM reprogramming is generally not required for 2011 and newer Cruze models.

Always inspect the connector thoroughly — check all pins and wiring for corrosion, loose connections, or physical damage. I've seen cases where wires are broken at the pin level, leading to intermittent signals and P2135-related symptoms.

A pigtail adapter can be a cost-effective solution if the throttle body is damaged or has worn connectors. This allows you to bypass faulty components without full replacement.

Hey everyone — related question: What should the voltage readings be at the pedal sensor and throttle position sensor when the foot is off the pedal and the throttle is fully closed? My family's 2011 Cruze has been entering limp mode at idle, showing P2135. I'd like to probe these voltages or use an OBD2 scanner to log them — just don't know what reference values to compare against. Any help would be appreciated!
