2011 Dodge Avenger P0013 DTC: Exhaust Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit Fault and Ticking Noise Diagnosis

Model: 2011 Avenger Fault Code: P0013 Posted: 2015-08-29 11:31

My 2011 Dodge Avenger with a 2.4L engine is showing DTC P0013, indicating an exhaust camshaft position actuator circuit fault. I'm also hearing a noticeable ticking noise coming from the valve cover, which I suspect may be related to worn lifters on the exhaust side. Does this OBD2 code directly cause the ticking sound? I've already inspected the wiring and replaced the exhaust VVT solenoid, but there's no power reaching it — the PCM appears to be failing. Can anyone confirm whether P0013 is linked to lifter noise or if the issue lies elsewhere? Any advice on how to properly diagnose this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm cautious about blaming the PCM outright — how did you confirm it's faulty? Ticking noise and a VVT issue: have you checked engine oil levels, pressure, and condition? The P0013 code indicates a circuit fault — is there 12V supply to the exhaust camshaft solenoid? Is the solenoid actually operating? For more details, refer to: http://www.obd-codes.com/p0013

The intake VVT solenoid is functioning properly. I've already changed both the engine oil and filter. After replacing the exhaust VVT solenoid, I found no power reaching it — the issue appears to originate from the PCM. All wiring connections are intact. I recommend using a step-by-step diagnostic procedure and verifying each test multiple times to ensure accuracy. Regarding the ticking noise, is there any correlation between this symptom and the P0013 code or solenoid failure?
