2010 Kia Optima P0106: Location of BARO Sensor and Diagnosis Guide

Model: 2010 Kia Optima Fault Code: P0106 Posted: 2017-10-27 13:51

I recently performed maintenance on my 2010 Kia Optima 2.4L 4-cylinder, replacing the alternator, power steering pump, and serpentine belt due to a leaking power steering pump. After completing this work, the check engine light activated with fault code P0106 — indicating an issue with either the MAP or BARO sensor circuit. According to my Haynes manual, models from 2006.5 onwards no longer use a traditional MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor and instead utilize a BARO (Barometric Pressure) sensor. I'm now looking for confirmation on where this BARO sensor is physically located in the 2010 Kia Optima. Is there a diagram or photo available that shows its exact position? Any detailed explanation or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and insight!

The BARO sensor is located in the air intake tube, typically near the throttle body or upstream of the mass airflow sensor. This placement allows it to monitor atmospheric pressure for engine management purposes.

Thanks so much for the quick reply! This morning after refilling my gas tank, the check engine light turned off on its own — possibly related to a fuel system reset or sensor calibration. As an additional note: when replacing the alternator on a 2010 Kia Optima 2.4L 4-cylinder, be aware that the bottom mounting bolt can be removed without drilling or loosening motor mounts. The lower bolt has a slot on top — after removing the upper bolt and loosening the lower one, you’ll need to tilt the alternator side-to-side (left and right) rather than back-and-forth to free it. This tip saved me from damaging components. Hope this helps others with the same repair!
