2010 Ford E35-0 6.0L Engine P0336 Crankshaft Position Sensor Issue - One-Time Code?

Model: 2010 Ford E350 Fault Code: P0336 Posted: 2016-10-25 07:35

I own a 2010 Ford E350 with a 6.0L V8 engine. After driving on rough dirt terrain for several hours, I stopped for a break. Upon restarting the vehicle, the check engine light came on and the OBD2 code P0336 appeared. The van started and ran normally afterward, and over three to four trips since, no further issues have occurred. I'm planning a long-distance trip soon and want to ensure this issue won't recur. Is there any concern with the P0336 code? Should I inspect or replace the crankshaft position sensor? Thanks for your help! — mudluva

Did you check the freeze frame data? The fact that the warning light was off before stopping is unusual. My suggestion would be to perform a visual inspection of the CKP electrical connector and the crankshaft position sensor itself. While we could analyze scan graphs or waveforms, such data typically only appears when there's an active issue — and codes usually set if a problem exists during operation.

The check engine light and P0336 code were cleared by a local garage friend. The light did not turn off on its own. What would you recommend doing to address this, especially before my upcoming long trip? Thanks for the advice!

Freeze frame data is lost when the code is cleared. While a scanner can show historical records in the fault history, it may not contain useful information. As with any suggestion, without an active issue present, a visual inspection of the sensor and wiring remains the most practical next step.
