2010 Dodge Charger 5.7 police package with code p3449 and flashing check engine light please help!

Model: 2010 Dodge Charger Fault Code: P3449 Posted: 2018-03-12 10:09

Hello I have a question and really need help to point me in the right direction. I have a 2010 Dodge Charger 5.7 police package with only 98k. My check engine light came on and started flashing I look up the PO Code at first it came out to be p0013 p0307 p3449. I look the codes up and found out the p0013 was the camshaft sensor and the other two codes have to do with cylinder 7, and to remind you I have the 5.7 Hemi so I need two spark plugs per cylinder. I replace my camshaft, I replace the spark plugs, the coil pack, and the MDS solenoid to cylinder 7. Followed by getting the codes reset and check engine light clear from the dashboard. I took the car around the block and what then two to three blocks the check engine light came back on so I turned around and headed back home and then it started flashing. When the car is just on or just idling the check engine light is on. the check engine light only get to flashing off and on as I driving. I wonder if it could be the fuel ejector or something else hope someone can help me thank you

flashing CEL is an attention getter as CAT damage is likely if issue not corrected - CaChing. P0013-BANK 1 CAMSHAFT 2 POSITION ACTUATOR CIRCUIT OPEN Is the p0013 issue settled with new cam sensor? Cam sensor and actuator are different items. P3449-MDS SOLENOID 7 CIRCUIT new inj did not correct next check circuit see below. the issue for both is CIRCUIT - Possible Causes P3449 (K454) MDS SOLENOID NO.7 CONTROL SHORTED TO BATTERY VOLTAGE (K454) MDS SOLENOID NO.7 CONTROL SHORTED TO GROUND (K454) MDS SOLENOID NO.7 CONTROL OPEN (Z904) GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN MDS SOLENOID NO.7 POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) PS; fuel INJECTOR

okay talk to the dealership in this what they sent me Good morning! My technician just informed me that the cause of your blinking check engine light is internal. He believes it is a cam and lifter issue, but would need you to authorize additional tear down to verify the problem. I would need an additional 9 hours for tear down. So total for diagnosis would be $1261.85. Do we have your permission to tear down the engine to point of failure? Also - do you have an extended warranty on the vehicle? In which my car is not under warranty

what is the status of the p0013 - ? you stated " I replace my camshaft," I asked if you changed sensor or actuator? You should check WIRING to MDS solenoid #7. You did get the MDS from dodge? The aftermarket part may be problematic - ohm reading out of spec chart below... If there is NO other info or codes the reply above CIRCUIT issue will need to be addressed. MDS SOLENOID RESISTANCE TEMPERATURE VALUE RESISTANCE - MINIMUM RESISTANCE - MAXIMUM -18° C (0° F)........... 7.22 Ω ........................8.12 Ω 0° C (32° F)............. 7.92 Ω.............................8.82 Ω 20° C (68° F)........... 8.72 Ω.............................9.62 Ω 38° C (100° F)......... 9.42 Ω.............................10.32 Ω 66° C (150° F)......... 10.62 Ω............................11.52 Ω 93° C (200° F)......... 11.82 Ω............................12.72 Ω 121° C (250° F)....... 12.82 Ω............................13.72 Ω 149° C (300° F),,,,,,,, 14.02 Ω............................14.92 Ω

The p0013 code in the p0307 code all went away I'm assuming the p3449 was the reason I gave the dealership $134 to diagnose the problem they checked everything on the vehicle and said everything was fine and the technician notice sounds coming from the cam and lifters but to diagnose that it will cost around 1,200

And yes I bought the MDS solenoid from Dodge

from the information I have - P3449 , the wiring to MDS is the issue. The PCM is not seeing the expected voltage on that circuit. First check the wiring, the circuit runs from PCM to MDS then to a common ground. I did not look deeply into wiring locations -time consuming - But from #7 cavity at PCM connector you should be able to get some info.... is wire open, grounded, shorted to voltage and Ohm of solenoid.. If I find anything I will add.

This is the wiring diagram to MSD - #7 wire is issue... If you can find connector locations for C101 and C100 would make it easier that is going to take tiime to find in tech support

Okay I will try that first and let you know what happened thanks

c101 will allow trouble shoot MDS wiring

MDS wiring

okay I'm going to start looking up stuff and I got a question when I took my car to the dealership to get the engine diagnosed didn't they supposed to check the wires for cylinder 7 and for the MDS solenoid?

Anonymous 2018-03-21 15:51

I do not know what they did. Talk to them. I posted above "from the information I have - P3449 , the wiring to MDS is the issue." My first reply listed likely causes of P3449. Did they check circuit IDK.

okay I just recent talk to the mechanic at the dealership and I ask them did they check the wires and they said they did

I only have the information you give me 1 code P3449 (MDS SOLENOID 7 CIRCUIT) Claim the circuit checks out - K454 and circuit Z904. The MDS solenoid is new and purchased from DODGE, maybe ohm checked. Then the possibilities suggest the PCM is bad? BUT checking circuit and using scanner should see voltage change when PCM commands MDS. Based above comment something is incorrect. I would confirm code description and do a TSB check and reevaluate tests done. PS the only thing I have a question with is connector location - BUT they did test so they know the location
