P0016 Fault on 2010 Hyundai Cruz 1.8: How to Fix Intake Camshaft Position Issue
Hi everyone, I recently installed a new timing kit on my 2010 Hyundai Cruz 1.8 and am now seeing fault code P0016. The diagnostic tool shows 'Crankshaft Position – Intake Camshaft Position Not Plausible'. I'm wondering if this indicates that one of the camshafts is misaligned—specifically, whether the intake camshaft is advanced or retarded. What steps should I take to resolve this? Is it possible the timing marks were not properly aligned during installation?
Start by inspecting the intake camshaft position actuator solenoid valve for electrical shorts to ground or mechanical issues such as debris, sludge, or gum buildup. Ensure the actuator was properly positioned and 'parked' during timing kit replacement. A misaligned actuator can cause incorrect camshaft positioning, leading directly to P0016. Verify that the intake camshaft is correctly aligned with the crankshaft at TDC using the factory timing marks.
