2009 Silverado P0056 Code: Remote Starter Not Working - Is This Related?

Model: 2009 Silverado Fault Code: P0056 Posted: 2016-12-06 17:58

My 2009 Silverado is showing a P0056 diagnostic trouble code, and I'm unable to get my remote starter to function. I'm wondering if this OBD2 code is directly related to the remote starter failure. The P0056 code indicates a problem with the oxygen sensor heater circuit. I recently disconnected the battery terminal while installing a new headlight, then reconnected it. After that, the check engine light initially turned off and the remote starter worked for a few seconds. However, the engine light returned shortly after, and now the remote starter no longer responds. Could this be caused by the battery disconnection or is there another underlying issue? I'd appreciate any insight into what might be wrong with my vehicle's system.

Non-factory remote starters can cause compatibility issues. The P0056 code is unlikely to be the root cause of your remote starter malfunction. Ensure your OBD2 scanner reads all codes, including manufacturer-specific ones such as P0999 and above. A potential issue may lie in the installation or wiring of the remote starter system. The factory-installed remote starter is typically disabled when the check engine light illuminates to prevent potential damage or unsafe situations. This behavior has occurred in several similar cases, so it may explain why your remote starter stopped working after the warning light returned.
