2009 Chevrolet Malibu Stalls with P0326, P0420, and P0011 Codes - Fuel, Oil, and Engine Issues

Model: 2009 Malibu Fault Code: P0011 Posted: 2018-11-20 18:42

Hi everyone, I'm a first-time poster and need some urgent help. My wife was driving our 2009 Chevrolet Malibu with our four-month-old daughter when the car suddenly stalled at a busy intersection. It would fire up and run very roughly for just a few seconds before quitting completely—like it's out of gas or the fuel pump has failed. The vehicle had been showing a P0171 oxygen sensor code for some time, and recently we discovered three new diagnostic trouble codes: P0326 (misfire detected), P0420 (catalyst efficiency below threshold), and P0011 (camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction). When the car was towed home, it was also found to be significantly low on oil. I'm concerned about potential engine damage due to poor lubrication and suspect that low or dirty oil might be contributing to the misfires and timing issues. Any advice on diagnosing or fixing these codes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

Low or dirty engine oil, especially with insufficient oil pressure, can trigger multiple fault codes such as P0326 and P0011 because camshaft timing relies on proper oil pressure. It's essential to change the oil and filter regularly to prevent internal engine damage. Additionally, perform a fuel pressure test and inspect the fuel pressure regulator for leaks—this could help rule out fuel delivery issues contributing to the rough idle and stalling behavior.
