I'm experiencing a P3449 error code on my 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3L flex-fuel, 4x4 model (VIN O), which is triggering the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp). The engine runs roughly, and I suspect it may be operating on only seven cylinders—though idle appears smooth. The truck has approximately 55,000 miles on it. I'm trying to understand how to diagnose this issue, especially since P3449 relates to the cylinder deactivation system. Where is the cylinder deactivation solenoid located? Where is the solenoid harness installed? Can either of these components be accessed without removing major parts or taking off panels? I've searched online for diagrams and videos but haven't found clear guidance. Any technical advice, step-by-step troubleshooting tips, wiring diagrams, or photos would be extremely helpful. Only the P3449 code present? If so, start by checking coil #7 for proper firing. Use a multimeter to verify primary voltage—is it receiving power and triggering correctly?

Thanks, Kev2. I appreciate the help. Previously, there were other codes that have since been cleared: PO449 (resolved by replacing a faulty emissions vent canister solenoid) and a bad O2 sensor (replaced and code cleared). P3449 is now the only remaining issue. I've also had past rodent damage—squirrels chewed wires—but all visible damage has been repaired.

Check whether coil #7 is a 2-wire or 4-wire type—ignore the secondary wire in testing. A simple diagnostic test: swap coil #7 with another known-good coil and observe if the P3449 code moves to a different cylinder. If it does, that points to a faulty coil. FYI, the Air Flow Meter (AFM) system may require reference to the factory service manual—let's hope this is a straightforward fix.
