2008 PT Cruiser P0430 Code: Engine Swap Issues and Cam Sensor Replacement Advice
I own a 2008 PT Cruiser and recently performed an engine swap, replacing the original engine with a 2005 model. Despite replacing the crankshaft sensor, I still experience no spark at the plugs or coil pack. My OBD2 scanner detected code P0340, which I now understand is related to the camshaft position sensor. I plan to replace this sensor immediately, but I'm unsure whether doing so will restore engine startup functionality. Given that the 2005 and 2008 engines are different models, I'm concerned about compatibility issues—especially with sensors like the crank and camshafts, as well as the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). Has anyone successfully performed a similar engine swap on this vehicle? If so, what specific components or wiring configurations need to be addressed to ensure proper operation and emissions compliance? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Tag082562
Engine swaps are not always a simple 'bolt-in' solution, especially when it comes to emissions regulations. Components like sensors and timing systems may not be compatible between different model years. The camshaft position sensor and tone rings in particular can differ significantly. Did you verify the compatibility of your 2005 engine with the 2008 PT Cruiser? Was the original 2008 engine retained, or did you completely remove it? Having access to the original 2008 engine components might help identify key differences that affect sensor operation and ignition timing.
