2008 Mercedes W211 P0732 Code: Gear Engagement Failure & ESP Inoperable Issue
I own a 2008 Mercedes-Benz W211 and am experiencing severe gear engagement problems. The car will not shift into reverse or drive, despite the engine running normally. This issue is accompanied by the P0732 diagnostic code, which also displays an ESP inoperable message. I've already ordered a professional OBD-II scanner for more accurate diagnostics, but I'm seeking input from others who have encountered this exact problem. Possible causes mentioned include dirty transmission fluid, clogged transmission filter, or faulty speed sensors. The vehicle does not show any signs of overheating. The most concerning symptom is that the car appears completely stuck—unable to move—until I turn off the engine for about 3 minutes, then restart it. After restarting, gear engagement works immediately. However, if the engine runs for more than a minute, the issue returns and shifting becomes impossible. I need practical solutions and insights into how to diagnose or fix this P0732-related transmission failure in my W211 model. Any experience with similar issues would be greatly appreciated.
