2008 GMC Savana G3500 P0230 Code: No Start, No Fuel Pump - Solution Found

Model: 2008 GMC Savana G3500 Fault Code: P0230 Posted: 2015-10-20 14:53

I'm working on a 2008 GMC Savana G3500 with a P0230 code and the vehicle will not start. It cranks over but does not start — no fuel pump operation. I've checked all wiring connections, performed several diagnostic tests, and replaced the fuel pressure sending unit, but the issue persists. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check the fuel pump relay and its associated circuit, including the fuse? These are common points of failure in P0230-related no-start issues.

The fuse is confirmed good, and I've tested the relay — it's functioning properly. I swapped it with a known-good relay and verified all ground connections; cleaned them thoroughly from front to back.

There are no other diagnostic codes present. The security light is off, there's no remote starter installed. The fuel pump fuse is located in the underhood fuse box and only receives 12V when the key is on. The fuel pump energizes for only about 3 seconds if the engine isn't running — this requires two people to test simultaneously to confirm operation.

After approximately 13 hours of troubleshooting wires, relays, fuses, and PCM modules, I accidentally discovered a broken body-to-ground wire on the right side of the van — specifically between the frame and engine. Replacing this ground strap resolved the issue completely. The vehicle now starts and runs smoothly. If anyone experiences a P0230 code on their 2008 GMC Savana G3500, I strongly recommend checking the body-to-frame grounding connection first to avoid significant downtime.
