2008 Ford F250 P0345 Camshaft Position Sensor Fault: Can You Drive with This Code?

Model: 2008 ford f250 Fault Code: P0345 Posted: 2016-08-14 15:09

The check engine light has come on, and the diagnostic code retrieved is P0345, indicating a camshaft position sensor issue. I'm wondering whether it's safe to continue driving my 2008 Ford F250 with this problem. Can I drive it safely until the repair is completed? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The engine type matters for accurate diagnosis—common options include 5.4L, 6.4L, or 6.8L. For a 5.4L engine, the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is located in Bank 2 (driver's side), near the top of the cylinder head, just in front of the serpentine belt pulley. Ensure the connector is securely plugged in and the wiring is intact. A faulty sensor can lead to poor performance or engine misfires if not addressed promptly.

Thank you for the quick response—I'll check the CMP sensor connection and ensure it's properly secured before taking further action.

Does anyone know whether it's better to purchase a replacement camshaft position sensor from a Ford dealership or if an aftermarket parts store would provide a reliable, long-lasting solution? I don't want to buy a defective part that fails prematurely. Thanks, Stefanie (Tom's wife).

You do not need to purchase the sensor from a Ford dealership. Aftermarket brands like Motorcraft are reliable and often offer better value. As long as they meet OEM specifications, a quality aftermarket sensor should work just as well.
