2008 Ford F-150 XLT P0060 O2 Sensor Error: Engine Light On, Code Reappears After Replacement

Model: 2008 Ford F-150 XLT Fault Code: P0060 Posted: 2015-03-05 09:18

My 2008 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 has a steady engine light. After a diagnostic at Auto Zone, the code read P0060 — indicating a problem with the oxygen sensor #2 on the driver's side, bank 2. I replaced the sensor as advised, and reset the computer yesterday. However, the engine light came back on today. I've also performed an oil change and topped off all fluids, and filled the tank with fresh gas with the cap tightly secured. The P0060 code is still present. I'm seeking advice — could this be a wiring issue or a faulty heater circuit? Any insights for a 4.6L engine with a single exhaust system would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't specify the engine type — it's likely either a 4.6L or 5.4L. Bank 2 is actually on the passenger side, not driver's side. Please confirm if your vehicle has only one catalytic converter, as that affects wiring and circuit integrity. Possible causes include: VPWR circuit open, HO2S heater circuit open, HO2S heater circuit short in harness, or a damaged HO2S heater element.

The 2008 Ford F-150 XLT is typically equipped with a 4.6L engine and features a single exhaust system. The oxygen sensor was installed before the catalytic converter, which is standard for this model.

Sensor #2 is located after the catalytic converter. Avoid using cheap wiring or aftermarket sensors — they may not provide reliable readings. For reference, see this technical document from Motorcraft: https://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs ... DSM804.pdf
