2008 Dodge Caliper P-1610 Code: No Park Lights, Dashboard Flashing Five Times - Diagnosis and Fix

Model: 2008 Dodge Caliper Fault Code: P1610 Posted: 2009-02-09 20:56

Hi everyone, I'm currently working on a 2008 Dodge Caliper and am encountering a P-1610 diagnostic code. This code indicates a 'Computer Output Circuit' fault in Section 10 of the vehicle's electrical system. However, I'm unsure what exactly Section 10 refers to or where it's located. The issue is that while all other lights—such as headlights, turn signals, and tail lights—are functioning properly, there are no park lights when the switch is turned to 'Park'. When I move the switch to 'Ahead', the dashboard cluster flashes five times and then stops. This behavior suggests a potential problem with the park light circuit. I've confirmed that all wiring, fuses, and bulbs are in good condition. The fact that the dash flashes when switching to 'Ahead' indicates the signal is reaching the module, but not being properly transmitted to the park lights. I'm wondering if this points to a faulty switch or a damaged wire harness. Any insights into how to diagnose or fix this P-1610 issue on a 2008 Dodge Caliper? This is my first time encountering this specific code and behavior.

Check the wiring along the driver's door sill plate. This area accumulates moisture, which can cause corrosion or arcing at splice points. I've seen this issue in several vehicles—especially around the pillar and door jamb areas. The water exposure often leads to intermittent faults that mimic park light failures. Even if the dashboard lights flash, a corroded wire or ground connection could be disrupting the signal. Don't overlook this area when troubleshooting.

Thanks for the tip! I'll inspect the door sill wiring and check for moisture damage or frayed connections. Will update once I've tested it.

Did you find any specific issues during your inspection?

Sorry for the delayed reply—forgot to post back. The issue was a broken wire that had bent at the pillar, right where it passes through the door frame. Once I repaired that connection, both park lights and the dashboard flash pattern returned to normal. Thanks again for pointing out the door sill area—it made all the difference! Jay
