2008 Chrysler Aspen OBD2 Fault Codes P0133 and P0153: Regular Gas Issue in Mexico
I own a 2008 Chrysler Aspen with the Hemi engine. In the United States, the vehicle runs perfectly on regular gasoline without any issues. However, when driving in Mexico using regular 'Magna' gas, the check engine light activates after approximately two tankfuls, and OBD2 diagnostic codes P0133 and P0159 are triggered. Switching to premium gasoline temporarily resolves the issue—the check engine light turns off once I refill with premium fuel, though it returns after using about half a tank. Is this a sign of a deeper problem? Should I always use premium fuel when driving in Mexico? Any insights or recommendations based on fuel composition differences between U.S. and Mexican gas stations would be greatly appreciated. Jim
It's worth investigating the difference between U.S. and Mexican gasoline—particularly in terms of octane rating and alcohol content. Check your owner’s manual for any specified fuel recommendations when using foreign fuels, as these may affect engine performance and sensor readings.
